In applications requiring a combination of high strength, superior fatigue life, and corrosion resistance, 420 martensitic chrome stainless steel offers a host of technical benefits and provides an overall robust cost-effective solution.

Precision Metal Shims and High-Wear Components

SPIROL is a manufacturer of custom Precision Shims with or without a tool to meet lead-time and total cost considerations. Shims are thin pieces of metal material often used as compensators to fill in small gaps between objects aligning parts, reducing wear and absorbing tolerances between mating components. Precision Shims can also significantly reduce manufacturing time and costs as they eliminate the need for each component to be machined in order to achieve the proper fit and function of the total assembly.

SPIROL produces Shims custom-made to customer specifications in thicknesses from 0.02mm up to 9.5mm (.001″ up to .375″) from a comprehensive inventory of raw materials including but not limited to:

  • Carbon steel
  • Stainless steel
  • Aluminum
  • Brass
  • Copper

Each material offers specific benefits for our customers’ specific applications including corrosion resistance, wear resistance and more, making them ideal in many industries. To further accommodate certain industries and applications, there are a number of finishing options available for our Shims designed to protect against particular environmental conditions, such as exposure to salts and corrosives, humidity and galvanic corrosion.

flat shims
Flat Shims & Washers
SPIROL is an expert in producing Flat Shims and Washers to meet the specifications needed for your application. We offer Flat Shims in many materials and thicknesses from 0.02mm up to 9.5mm (.001" up to .375").

Your Flat Shims and Washers, no matter how complex, will be quoted quickly and delivered when you need them. We utilize the latest and most extensive manufacturing techniques to assure accuracy of our Flat Shims at the lowest possible cost, and can produce Flat Shims for prototype and short-run applications without tooling, which can dramatically reduce your spend and time to market.
thin shims
Thin Shims
SPIROL can produce Thin Shims with or without a tool in any flat configuration including highly complex, non-symmetrical geometries. In addition to conventional stamping technology, SPIROL can produce extremely Thin Shims by S.W.A.T. (Stamping Without a Tool). This proprietary stamping method can be used on parts less than 0.25mm (.010") thick (To put this in perspective, a standard piece of paper is 0.1mm (.004”) thick.) Our statistically capable process produces Thin Shims with one-hit and no burr.

For Thin Shims greater than 0.25mm (.010”) thick, SPIROL offers CNC Laser cutting and CNC Machining to manufacture Shims with complex geometries. All of these production methods are ideal to maintain dimensional repeatability for quick turnaround prototype and low volume production orders - and there is no tooling charge!
heat treated shims
Heat Treated Shims
SPIROL specializes in Heat Treated Shims. Shims are heat treated to improve mechanical properties. Through hardened Shims are heat treated to increase hardness, tensile and yield strength to provide a more robust component. Case hardened Shims are produced with the surface being considerably harder than the core. This results in a Shim that has the flexibility to avoid fracture due to the soft core, yet provides an excellent wear surface.
single shim
Single Shims
SPIROL produces single Shims custom-made to individual customer specifications from a comprehensive inventory of raw materials in thicknesses from 0.02mm to 9.5mm (.001" up to .375"). If you are designing a new Shim, take advantage of SPIROL’s complimentary engineering assistance. SPIROL has the technical product know-how and manufacturing expertise to assist your engineers in designing the lowest cost Shim to meet your needs.

SPIROL also manufactures different types of Adjustable Shims to provide a simple, single SKU solution when a range of Shim thicknesses is required.

Benefits

We specialize in complicated parts in small quantities; yet are fully equipped to manufacture low, medium and high volumes.

Most secondary processes are performed entirely in-house affording complete control over lead-time and quality. Many secondary bundling and packaging options are available to facilitate ease of assembly considerations.
