The Benefits of 420 Chrome Stainless Steel Coiled Spring Pins

In applications requiring a combination of high strength, superior fatigue life, and corrosion resistance, 420 martensitic chrome stainless steel offers a host of technical benefits and provides an overall robust cost-effective solution.

Spring Pins

SPIROL offers two types of Spring Pins: Coiled & Slotted Spring Pins.

Coiled Spring Pins

Coiled Spring PinsThe Coiled Spring Pin and its production technology was invented by SPIROL in 1948. Since that time, the Coiled Pin has proven to be the most versatile Spring Pin in the industry. Easily recognized by its unique 2 1/4 coil cross-section, Coiled Pins are self-retaining fasteners achieved by radial tension applied against the hole wall, and they are the only press-fit pins designed to remain flexible after installation. More than fasteners, SPIROL Coiled Pins are shock-absorbing elements that are integral, active components of a total assembly. Coiled Spring Pins are available in three duties, light duty, standard duty and heavy duty, to enable the designer to select the right combination of strength, flexibility and diameter to suit different host materials, strength requirements and loading types. SPIROL Coiled Pins typically offer the lowest installed cost in most applications.

Slotted Spring Pins

Slotted Spring PinsSlotted Spring Pins are general purpose components commonly used in numerous fastening applications. Sometimes referred to as Roll Pins, Rolled Pins, Split Pins, C-Pins, Tension Pins or simply Spring Pins, Slotted Pins are headless hollow tubes with a longitudinal slot down the entire length with chamfered or round ends to aid installation. Slotted Pins are produced to a controlled outside diameter slightly greater than the holes in which they will be installed. The primary spring action of the Slotted Pin is focused on the area opposite the slot as the two halves of the pin compress during installation. Once installed, the pin applies continuous pressure towards the sides of the hole wall. This flexibility allows Slotted Pins to accommodate wider hole tolerances than rigid Solid Pins which results in reduced manufacturing costs of the component.

Coiled Spring PinsIf installation equipment is required, SPIROL also offers a standard comprehensive line of Pin Installation Equipment from manual to fully automatic modules, with or without out fixturing, to support your Coiled Pin assembly requirements.
